Exemestane Tablets helps treat breast cancer in those women who have gone through menopause (postmenopausal). It helps treat breast cancer in those women who have taken tamoxifen (an anti-cancer medicine) for 2 to 3 years or whose disease has progressed following the treatment with tamoxifen

Exemestane Tablets is a type of medicine called an aromatase inhibitor. It works by preventing the action of the Exemestane enzyme. This enzyme helps in producing the estrogen hormone in postmenopausal women. Most breast cancers require estrogen to grow (estrogen receptor-positive cancers). Controlling the production of this hormone helps stop the breast cancer cells from growing.

Exemestane Tablets are usually taken once daily, preferably after a meal and at the same time each day. The dose and duration of treatment depend on the condition and response to the treatment. In most cases, the treatment with Exemestane Tablets may be suggested for 2 or 3 years. However, in some cases, the doctor may also recommend taking it for a longer time. Follow the doctorâ€™s instructions and do not stop the medication unless advised otherwise.

This medicineâ€™s most common side effects include hot flushes, increased sweating, insomnia, tiredness, joint pain, headache, increased appetite, and nausea. However, these symptoms may vary from person to person. If they persist or become worrisome, consult the doctor right away. Additionally, Exemestane Tablets may also affect fertility. Talk to your doctor if you have concerns about this. Let the doctor know if you are pregnant, planning to get pregnant, or breastfeeding, as this medicine may cause harmful effects to the developing baby. Use effective contraception while on treatment with this medication.

Before starting treatment with Exemestane Tablets, the doctor may take blood tests to check your vitamin D level or bone density. Let them know if you still have menstrual periods, or have a problem with the liver or kidney. The doctor should also know about all other medicines you are taking, as they may make this medicine less effective or change how it works. Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to any of the ingredients of this medicine.
